Batman Nymph

Batman Nymph

Attractor Nymph

Rainbow Trout
Brown Trout
Hook: 10

The Batman Nymph is an attractor variation on the classic Prince Nymph. Cheech ties it here with a brown biot tail, a black UV dubbed body, an ice blue wire rib, a black CDC collar, black biot wings and barred foil legs. Fly Fish Food reaches for it most when stoneflies start to hatch, and it works well as a dropper. Tied smaller, it fishes all year, particularly as a dropper or anchor fly on a Euro rig. Tied here on a size 10 hook.

How to Tie the Batman Nymph

  1. 1

    Step 1

Slide the gold tungsten bead onto the hook and mount the hook in the vise.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Wrap lead wire around the shank and push the wraps up against the back of the bead.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Start the black thread behind the lead and wrap back to the bend.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Tie in a pair of brown goose biots at the bend, one on each side, so they spread into a forked tail. Trim the butts.

  5. 5

    Step 5

Tie in the ice blue wire at the base of the tail, leaving the free end trailing behind the hook.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Wrap the thread over the lead to cover it and build a smooth, tapered underbody.

  7. 7

    Step 7

Dub the thread with UV black Ice Dub and wrap a tapered body forward from the tail, stopping short of the bead to leave room for the collar and wings.

  8. 8

    Step 8

Spiral the wire forward over the dubbing in open turns for a rib. Tie it off at the front of the body and remove the excess.

  9. 9

    Step 9

Gather fibers from black CDC feathers in a clamp, trim them free and spin them in a thread loop. Wrap the loop behind the bead as a collar, tie it off and trim.

A Swiss CDC Multi-Clamp handles this step.

  10. 10

    Step 10

Tie in a pair of black goose biots behind the bead with the tips pointing forward past the eye. Fold them back over the body, bind them down behind the bead so they lie as wings, and trim the excess.

  11. 11

    Step 11

Tie a length of foil legs along each side behind the bead, then trim them to length.

  12. 12

    Step 12

Whip finish behind the bead and cut the thread.
