How to Tie the Bendback

   Step 1

   Using pliers, carefully put a slight upward bend in the hook shank just behind the hook eye. This forces the hook point to ride upward for a weedless presentation.

   Don't over-bend the hook. A gentle 10-15 degree bend is sufficient to keep the point up.

   Step 2

   Attach thread on the bent portion and lay a solid thread base along the shank.

   Step 3

   Tie in flat diamond braid at the bend and wrap forward to create a slim, durable body. Tie off and trim.

   Step 4

   Tie in a small clump of white bucktail on top of the shank (which will be the belly when fishing hook-point-up), about 1.5x the hook shank length.

   Step 5

   Add 4-6 strands of Flashabou or Krystal Flash along both sides of the belly wing.

   Tie in a slightly larger clump of olive or chartreuse bucktail over the belly wing, extending to the same length.

   Step 7

   Optionally attach 3D stick-on eyes behind the hook eye and secure with thread and UV resin.

   Step 8

   Build a neat thread head, whip finish, and coat the head with UV resin or epoxy. Verify the hook point rides up and the wing shields the point from snagging.
