Blob Fly
A competition stillwater fly developed in the UK that uses dense, flashy Blob Fritz for a highly visible attractor profile. While not imitating any specific insect, the Blob triggers aggressive strikes from stocked and wild trout. A mainstay of UK reservoir competition fishing, available in a rainbow of bright colors.

Materials
Short shank stillwater hook, sizes 8-14 (or competition nymph hook)
8/0 or 140D, matching color or fluorescent
Blob Fritz or Jelly Fritz, 10-15mm, in orange, pink, yellow, or custom blend
Tungsten or slotted bead, fluorescent color (optional)
Glo-Brite floss or hot thread finish (optional)
How to Tie the Blob Fly

Step 1
Secure the hook in the vise. Attach thread behind the eye and wrap back to the bend.

Step 2
Take a length of Blob Fritz. Strip a small section of fibers from one end to expose the core for a clean tie-in.

Step 3
Tie in the stripped core at the bend of the hook. Wrap thread forward to just behind the eye or bead.

Wrap the Blob Fritz forward in touching wraps. After each turn, wet your fingers and stroke fibers backward to keep the body bushy and even.
Stroking fibers back with wet fingers prevents trapping and builds a fuller profile.

Continue wrapping until about 2-3mm behind the hook eye. Strip remaining fibers from the end to expose core.

Tie off the core with several tight wraps of thread. Trim excess fritz.

Optionally tie in fluorescent floss and make a neat hot-spot head.

Whip finish and cut thread. Tease out body fibers with Velcro or a dubbing brush for extra volume.

Add a drop of varnish or resin to the thread for durability.
