How to Tie the Blue Collar Worker

   Step 1

   Slide silver tungsten bead onto the jig hook. Add touching lead wraps behind the bead if desired. Cover with Olive/Brown 210D thread.

   Step 2

   Switch to Camel 8/0 thread and build a smooth base to the hook bend.

   Step 3

   Tie in pheasant tail fibers at the bend for the tail, then tie in Sulky tinsel and 6X nylon for ribbing.

   Step 4

   Wrap pheasant tail fibers forward to form the body. Secure and trim.

   Use 4-5 fibers and wrap together for a natural segmented look.

   Step 5

   Counter-wrap the Sulky tinsel and 6X nylon as a protective rib. Tie off.

   Step 6

   Select a dun CDC feather and tie it in by the tip. Make 1-2 sparse wraps as a collar, sweeping fibers rearward.

   Step 7

   Switch to Doctor Blue 8/0 thread. Build a visible blue hot collar directly behind the bead.

   The blue thread collar is the 'blue collar' signature of this fly.

   Step 8

   Whip finish with the blue thread and apply a small drop of head cement.
