Body Glass Chironomid
Body Glass Chironomid is an easy chironomid pattern tied by Cheech of Fly Fish Food for fishing on a midge tip line with a long leader. As with a Euro nymphing rig, the weight of each fly matters when setting up a team. It uses a slotted bead because a slotted bead has less metal removed than a countersunk one, which helps it sink without moving up in bead size. Half round Body Glass makes the body, with a touch of UV shrimp pink Ice Dub for a subtle hot spot. Tied here on a size 14 hook.

How to Tie the Body Glass Chironomid
- 1
Step 1
Slide the slotted bead onto the hook, set the hook in the vise and keep the bead back from the eye.
- 2
Step 2
Start the brown thread behind the eye and tie in a length of white Glo-Brite floss for the gills. Tease the strands apart.
- 3
Step 3
Tie off the thread, then slide the bead forward over the wraps so the floss stands out in front of it.
- 4
Step 4
Trim the floss to a short tuft and restart the thread behind the bead.
- 5
Step 5
Warm the end of a length of Body Glass with a lighter and stretch it so the end narrows.
- 6
Step 6
Wrap the thread back into the bend, tie in the narrowed end of the Body Glass and bring the thread forward in smooth wraps to just behind the bead.
- 7
Step 7
Dub a small amount of UV shrimp pink Ice Dub onto the thread and wrap a short, thin band behind the bead for the hot spot.
- 8
Step 8
Wrap the Body Glass forward in touching turns, over the thread and then over the dubbing, up to the bead.
- 9
Step 9
Tie off the Body Glass behind the bead and trim the excess.
- 10
Step 10
Whip finish behind the bead and trim the thread.
