How to Tie the Borski Bonefish Slider

   Step 1

   Secure the saltwater hook in the vise. Tie in lead or bead chain eyes about 1/3 back from the hook eye using figure-eight wraps.

   Step 2

   Wrap thread to the bend. Tie in a tail of tan craft fur or Arctic fox, about 1.5x the hook shank in length. Add 4-6 strands of Krystal Flash on top.

   Keep the tail sparse for a natural silhouette on the flats.

   Step 3

   Tie in a sparse brown or grizzly hackle feather at the base of the tail.

   Step 4

   Palmer the hackle forward over the rear half of the shank in open turns, stopping behind the dumbbell eyes. Secure and trim.

   Step 5

   Begin spinning clumps of natural deer body hair in front of the hackle, packing tightly between each clump.

   Alternate slightly lighter and darker clumps for a natural, mottled look.

   Step 6

   Continue spinning and packing deer hair forward to the hook eye. Whip finish at the eye.

   Step 7

   Remove the fly from the vise and trim the deer hair head to a rounded, bullet-like shape using a razor blade and scissors. Leave the bottom slightly flat for proper orientation.

   Optionally add a monofilament weed guard loop from the eye to the hook point for fishing over turtle grass.
