Bruiser Bach
The Bruiser Bach is Cheech's take on the Diawl Bach, a stillwater fly carried by many anglers in Europe. Its dubbed body of Bruiser Blend gives it a somewhat different color and a different action in the water from the usual version. A red wire rib crosses the body, and fiery brown saddle fibers make the tail and beard. Cheech reaches for it when callibaetis or snails are around, and he fishes it low with a slow retrieve. Tied here on a size 12 hook.

How to Tie the Bruiser Bach
- 1
Step 1
Start the thread behind the eye and wrap a smooth base back to the start of the bend.
- 2
Step 2
Strip a small bunch of fiery brown fibers from a saddle hackle and lay them on top of the shank with the tips past the bend for a tail. Bind them down along the shank and trim the butts near the eye.
- 3
Step 3
Tie in the red wire at the base of the tail and leave it trailing to the rear.
- 4
Step 4
Dub a thin layer of Bruiser Blend Junior onto the thread and wrap it forward to form a slim body, leaving room for a small head.
- 5
Step 5
Wrap the wire forward over the body in an open spiral as the rib. Tie it off behind the eye and remove the excess.
- 6
Step 6
Build a small, neat thread head in front of the body.
- 7
Step 7
Turn the fly upside down in the vise. Tie small bunches of fiery brown fibers in behind the eye with the tips pointing forward past the hook eye.
- 8
Step 8
Fold the fibers back along the body and put a few wraps against them so they stay swept back as a beard. Return the fly to the upright position.
- 9
Step 9
Whip finish behind the eye and cut the thread.
- 10
Step 10
Add a small amount of UV resin to the head and cure it.
