Caddis Poopah
A highly effective caddis pupa imitation designed by Tim Fox. The Vernille (Ultra Chenille) body wrapped over a pearl tinsel underbody and soft partridge hackle legs create a realistic emerging caddis profile. The black ostrich herl thorax adds a buggy, lifelike head. Dead-drift it near the bottom or swing it through runs during caddis hatches.

Materials
Tiemco 3761 or 2487, sizes 12-16
Olive or tan 8/0
Ultra Chenille, olive (or tan/orange)
Fine gold or copper wire
Pearl tinsel
Peacock herl
Grouse hackle or partridge
How to Tie the Caddis Poopah

Step 1
Secure the hook in the vise and start the thread. Wrap to the bend and tie in a piece of fine gold wire for the rib.

Step 2
Tie in a strip of pearl tinsel at the bend (this will become the shellback). Also tie in a short piece of olive Ultra Chenille.

Step 3
Wrap the Ultra Chenille forward to form a plump body, stopping at the thorax. Tie off and trim.
Leave room for the thorax and hackle—the body should fill about 2/3 of the shank.

Step 4
Pull the pearl tinsel forward over the top of the chenille body as a shellback. Secure at the thorax. Counter-wrap the gold wire over everything as a rib. Tie off.

Step 5
Tie in 2-3 strands of peacock herl and wrap a full thorax. Tie off and trim.

Step 6
Select a grouse or partridge feather. Tie it in by the tip and make 1-2 wraps as a soft hackle collar. Sweep the fibers rearward, tie off, whip finish, and cement.
