CDC Midge Emerger
CDC Midge Emerger is a tiny emerger, tied here by Cheech, for rising fish during a midge hatch. A sparse rusty orange Antron shuck trails a slim thread body, with a dubbed thorax and a small CDC wing up front. Emergers belong alongside the other styles you carry for fish feeding on midges. It is not too hard to tie and takes few materials, and the colors can be switched to match the midges in your area. Keep it sparse and give it a good presentation. Tied here on a size 24 hook.

How to Tie the CDC Midge Emerger
- 1
Step 1
Mount the hook in the vise and start the blue dun thread behind the eye.
- 2
Step 2
Wrap the thread back to the bend and tie in a sparse length of rusty orange Antron for the shuck. Trim the shuck to length.
- 3
Step 3
Wrap the thread forward and back to form a slim, smooth body, finishing at the rear of the body.
- 4
Step 4
Darken a length of the thread with a black permanent marker.
- 5
Step 5
Wrap the darkened thread forward over the body in an open spiral to make the black segments, stopping a little behind the eye.
- 6
Step 6
Tie in the CDC on top of the shank just behind the eye, leaving a short tuft of tips forward over the eye and the rest of the feather and its stem trailing back over the body.
- 7
Step 7
Fold the trailing part of the feather up and forward, and secure it so the fibers stand above the shank.
- 8
Step 8
Dub a small amount of Super Fine onto the thread and form a small thorax around the base of the wing.
- 9
Step 9
Whip finish behind the eye and trim the thread.
- 10
Step 10
Trim the upright feather and stem to length to finish the wing.
Keep the fly sparse. Change the thread and dubbing colors to match the midges where you fish.
