Materials
Dry fly hook, size 14-20
Tan or olive 8/0
Microfibetts or hackle fibers, split
Tan superfine dubbing
Deer hair, 180-degree fan
How to Tie the Comparadun

Step 1
Secure the hook. Start thread and wrap to the bend.

Step 2
Tie in two Microfibetts or stiff hackle fibers, split wide. These form a stabilizing outrigger tail.

Step 3
Dub a slim body to the 1/3 point from the eye.

Step 4
Cut and stack a clump of fine deer hair.

Step 5
Tie in the hair on top of the shank with 2-3 tight wraps. Carefully fan the hair into a 180-degree semicircle.

Step 6
Post the base of the wing with thread wraps to hold the fan shape.

Step 7
Trim the butts. Dub a tiny amount of dubbing around the wing base.

Step 8
Dub a very small amount in front of the wing to the eye.

Step 9
Whip finish and apply a tiny drop of head cement.
