Lance Egan's modern caddis dry fly featured by both In The Riffle and Fly Fish Food. The CDC underwing and collar provide superb natural flotation while the poly yarn overwing ensures visibility. A highly effective pattern for pressured trout during caddis hatches on technical waters.

Materials
Tiemco TMC 100 or similar dry fly hook, sizes 12-18
Tan or brown UTC 70 denier
White or tan Antron yarn
Tan Superfine dry fly dubbing
Natural dun CDC feathers (medium slate)
White poly yarn (Parapost or similar)
Natural CDC feathers, wound in dubbing loop
How to Tie the Corn Fed Caddis

Step 1
Secure the hook and start the tan thread. Wrap to the bend and tie in a short tuft of white Antron yarn as a trailing shuck, extending about half the shank length back.

Step 2
Dub a slim, even body of tan Superfine dubbing from the shuck base forward, leaving the front third of the hook for the wing and collar.

Step 3
Stack 2-3 CDC feathers and measure so the tips extend just past the bend. Tie in on top as the underwing.
Avoid using silicone floatant on CDC—use CDC-safe products like Tiemco Dry Magic or Shimizaki Dry Shake.

Tie in a sparse clump of white poly yarn on top of the CDC underwing. Trim to wing length for visibility.

Step 5
Spin CDC fibers in a dubbing loop or tie in a CDC feather by the tip. Wrap as a collar just in front of the wing for a bushy, soft-hackle effect.

Step 6
Whip finish behind the eye. Trim any excess CDC. The finished fly should float well with the CDC providing natural buoyancy and the poly yarn making it easy to spot.
