How to Tie the Czech Nymph (Classic Weighted)

   Step 1

   Secure a curved nymph hook in the vise. Wrap a firm layer of lead or tungsten wire around the shank, covering about 2/3 of the body length. Leave space behind the eye for the thorax.

   Use tungsten wire for maximum weight in the slimmest profile.

   Step 2

   Start thread behind the eye and secure the weight wraps, creating a tapered thread base to smooth over transitions.

   Step 3

   Tie in a length of fine copper wire at the bend for ribbing.

   Tie in a strip of scud back or Thin Skin at the top of the hook at the bend for the shellback.

   Step 5

   Dub a slim, tapered body using hare's ear or synthetic dubbing, building up from the bend toward the eye.

   Keep the body reasonably slim despite the weighting—the curved hook provides the scud/caddis shape.

   Step 6

   Pull the shellback strip over the top of the dubbed body to create the dorsal casing. Secure with thread just behind the eye.

   Counter-wrap the copper wire rib over the shellback and body in even, spaced turns. Secure and trim.

   Step 8

   Add a pinch of dark dubbing or 1-2 turns of peacock herl for a contrasting thorax. Optionally add a pink/orange hotspot.

   Pink or orange hotspots are frequently added for extra fish attraction in competition settings.

   Step 9

   Whip finish a small head. Optionally apply a thin coat of varnish or UV resin for protection.
