Materials
Standard emerger hook (TMC 2457 or Daiichi 1130), sizes 14-18
8/0 or 70 Denier, olive or brown
Sparse CDC fibers or tan Antron yarn
Flat Diamond Braid (pearl, olive, or natural colors)
Hare's ear dubbing or fine synthetic blend
CDC feather tuft (white or natural grey)
How to Tie the Diamond Braid Emerger

Step 1
Secure the emerger hook in the vise. Start thread at the eye and wrap down to the bend.

Step 2
Tie in a sparse bunch of CDC fibers or Antron yarn at the bend as a trailing shuck, extending about half a shank length past the bend.

Step 3
Tie in a strip of flat Diamond Braid at the tail.

Step 4
Wrap the Diamond Braid forward in touching or slightly overlapping turns to form a slim, reflective, segmented body. Stop at the thorax area and tie off.
The diamond braid gives a bright, reflective body that imitates the gas bubble of an emerging insect.

Dub a slightly bulky thorax with hare's ear dubbing, leaving room behind the eye.

Tie in a small tuft of CDC on top as an upright wing for visibility and floatation.

Whip finish and apply head cement if desired. Pick out thorax fibers for a buggy appearance.
