Materials
Hanak H400BL or similar barbless jig hook, sizes 12-14
Slotted tungsten bead, gold, 3.2-3.5mm
Red 8/0 UNI-Thread or UTC 70 Denier
Lead-free wire .015" (optional)
Kingfisher blue hackle fibers (Chinese saddle hackle)
Ice Dub, Kingfisher Blue
Sulky Metallic Tinsel, Opalescent
Brown hen hackle, soft (Whiting Red Label)
Ice Dub, UV Pink
How to Tie the Egan's Blue Dart

Step 1
Slide slotted tungsten bead onto jig hook. Optionally add 8-10 wraps of lead-free wire behind the bead.
Use lead wire for faster sink in deeper runs.

Start red thread behind the bead and wrap a smooth thread base down to the bend of the hook.

Step 3
Tie in a sparse bunch of kingfisher blue hackle fibers for the tail, keeping them short.

Step 4
Tie in opalescent Sulky tinsel for the rib at the tail tie-in point.

Step 5
Dub a slim body of Kingfisher Blue Ice Dub forward to the thorax area, leaving room behind the bead.
Keep the body thin for a fast sink rate.

Step 6
Counter-wrap the opalescent tinsel forward as ribbing, creating 4-5 evenly spaced segments. Tie off and trim.

Prepare a brown hen hackle feather. Tie it in by the tip and make 1-2 wraps for a sparse soft hackle collar. Sweep fibers rearward and tie off.

Dub a small collar of UV Pink Ice Dub directly behind the bead to form the hot spot.

Whip finish at the bead. Apply a small drop of UV resin or head cement for durability.
