How to Tie the EP Baitfish

  1. 1

    Step 1

Mount hook in vise. Start thread and wrap a base along the shank from behind the eye to the bend.

Use monofilament thread for the best translucent finish.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Tie in a sparse clump of white EP fibers at the bend, extending rearward about 2x the shank length. Fold back and secure.

The fold-over technique creates volume without bulk at the tie-in.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Move forward slightly and tie in another clump of white EP fibers. Fold back. Add flash along the sides.

Build in thin layers, working toward the eye.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Continue adding EP fiber clumps, transitioning to the back color (olive/chartreuse) on top of the shank.

3-4 layers per side creates a good profile.

  5. 5

    Step 5

At the head, add a final clump of colored EP fibers on top and white below. Fold all fibers back.

Ensure a clean color transition from belly to back.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Build a thread head, whip finish. Apply adhesive eyes to each side of the head with superglue.

Position eyes so they're visible from the side.

  7. 7

    Step 7

Coat the entire head area with UV resin and cure. Trim the overall shape to a tapered, minnow-like profile.

Trim to a torpedo shape—pointed at both ends.
