Fancy Pants
Fancy Pants is Cheech's cone-head streamer, a cousin to the Drunk Drea with a split tail of two rabbit strips in place of marabou. The strips swing independently and give the fly a different kind of movement from a marabou tail. A compound loop of Ripple Ice Fiber, marabou, Barred Predator Wrap and fox makes a full, fishy collar, and the loop is worth trying with other materials too. Fish it as a crayfish imitation or as a normal streamer when more movement is needed. Tied here on a size 4 hook.

How to Tie the Fancy Pants
- 1
Step 1
Slide the gold cone onto the hook, narrow end first, and push it up to the eye. Mount the hook in the vise.
- 2
Step 2
Wrap .025 lead wire around the shank behind the cone and push it into the back of the cone. Start the thread behind the lead and lock it in place.
- 3
Step 3
Take the thread to the rear of the shank and dub a small ball of UV pink Ice Dub just ahead of the bend.
- 4
Step 4
Cut two lengths of rabbit strip and tie one on each side of the shank just ahead of the dubbing ball, so they splay apart behind the hook like a pair of legs. Trim the butts.
The dubbing ball helps hold the two strips apart so each one moves on its own.
- 5
Step 5
Tie in the UV Polar Chenille ahead of the strips and wrap it forward, stroking the fibers back. Tie it off well behind the cone to leave room for the collar and trim.
- 6
Step 6
Away from the vise, spread Ripple Ice Fiber on a flat pad and lay red fox hair cut from the hide over it.
- 7
Step 7
Add marabou fibers, then fibers of Barred Predator Wrap, keeping the stack evenly spread.
- 8
Step 8
Pick the stack up with a dubbing loop tweezer. Form a thread loop behind the cone, set the stack into the loop and spin it into a tight strand.
- 9
Step 9
Wrap the strand forward to the cone, stroking the fibers back with each turn so none get trapped.
- 10
Step 10
Tie off the strand tight behind the cone and trim the excess.
- 11
Step 11
Pick out any trapped fibers with a bodkin, then whip finish behind the cone.
