Flashabaetis
Curtis Fry tied the Flashabaetis as an unweighted mayfly nymph with some added flash to draw attention. With no bead, it sinks slowly and stays in front of fish longer, which helps in lakes and slower water, and it can be fished just below the surface. He usually ties it for PMD, Baetis and Callibaetis nymphs, and the colors can be changed to imitate many other mayflies. Sizes run from 14 to 18. Tied here on a size 16 hook.

How to Tie the Flashabaetis
- 1
Step 1
Start the olive dun thread behind the eye and wrap a thin base back to the bend.
- 2
Step 2
Tie in a small bunch of partridge fibers at the bend for the tail. Bind the butts along the shank and smooth the thread over them.
- 3
Step 3
Tie in the copper wire at the bend so it trails behind the hook.
- 4
Step 4
Tie in the brown holographic tinsel at the same point, trailing behind the hook.
- 5
Step 5
Tie in the double-sided Mylar at the bend and bring the thread forward to the front of the abdomen.
- 6
Step 6
Wrap the Mylar forward with the peacock side facing out. Tie it off at the front of the abdomen and trim it.
- 7
Step 7
Pull the brown holographic tinsel forward along the top of the abdomen, tie it down, and trim it.
- 8
Step 8
Wrap the copper wire forward in open turns over the abdomen, tie it off, and trim the excess.
- 9
Step 9
Tie in a strip of Thin Skin on top at the front of the abdomen so it trails back over the body.
- 10
Step 10
Add dubbing wax to the thread, dub on the gray Hare'e Ice Dub, and wrap the thorax forward to just behind the eye.
- 11
Step 11
Tie a partridge feather in over the thorax with its stem running out past the eye and its fibers splayed along the sides for legs.
- 12
Step 12
Pull the Thin Skin forward over the thorax and legs and tie it off behind the eye. Trim the Thin Skin and the partridge stem.
- 13
Step 13
Whip finish and cut the thread.
- 14
Step 14
Coat the wing case with a thin layer of the Loon UV finish and cure it with a UV light.
