How to Tie the Flavinella Comparadun

   Step 1

   Place the hook in the vise and start the copper thread behind the eye, wrapping back to the bend.

   Step 2

   Select a small clump of moose body hair for the tail. Tie in at the bend and split into two even tails using figure-eight wraps and a drop of superglue.

   Split tails help the fly sit balanced on the water surface.

   Step 3

   Tie in the olive Flex-Floss at the bend. Stretch slightly and wrap forward in touching turns to create a smooth, segmented body. Stop at the thorax position.

   Step 4

   Select a clump of comparadun deer hair. Clean out the underfur and stack the tips in a hair stacker.

   Step 5

   Tie in the deer hair wing at the thorax position, tips pointing forward. Fan the hair into a 180-degree semicircle over the top of the hook.

   Use tight thread wraps to flare the deer hair, then post the base with thread to keep the wing upright.

   Step 6

   Dub a small amount of thread or dubbing around the wing base to secure and shape the thorax area.

   Step 7

   Whip finish behind the wing, trim any stray fibers, and apply head cement to the thread head.
