How to Tie the Fluff Top Mayfly

   Step 1

   Place the hook in the vise and start the white thread behind the eye.

   Step 2

   Tie in a short clump of brown Sparkle Emerger Yarn at the bend for the shuck/tail, about half the hook length.

   Step 3

   Tie in the shrimp pink iridescent thread at the bend for the rib.

   Step 4

   Tie in a turkey biot by the tip at the bend. Wrap the biot forward to create a segmented body, stopping at the thorax area. Tie off.

   Wrap the biot with the raised edge facing you for the most pronounced segmentation.

   Counter-wrap the iridescent thread rib forward over the biot body. Tie off.

   Tie in a post of tan Parapost Yarn at the thorax position, standing upright.

   Step 7

   Take 2-3 white CDC feathers, align the tips, and tie them in around the post as a parachute-style wing. The CDC fibers should radiate outward from the post.

   Dub the pink PMD dry fly dubbing around the base of the post to form the thorax.

   Build a small thread head, whip finish, and apply a drop of superglue to the thread head.

   The CDC parachute wing provides great flotation without needing traditional hackle.
