Foam Arse Blob
Foam Arse Blob, usually shortened to FAB, is a buoyant stillwater fly with a yellow foam butt and an orange jelly fritz body. It is about as simple as a fly gets, and the fritz is what makes it interesting. Cheech fishes it on a Type 5 full sink line with 5 feet of 3X to a weighted leech, 5 feet of 3X to a smaller chironomid or nymph, then 5 feet of 3X to the FAB. The leader rises toward the buoyant fly and covers several depths at once. Fritz comes in many colors, so try what your fish prefer. Tied here on a size 10 hook.

How to Tie the Foam Arse Blob
- 1
Step 1
Mount the hook in the vise and start the orange thread on the front of the shank. Trim the tag.
- 2
Step 2
Lay the yellow foam cylinder on top of the shank with its long end pointing back past the bend.
- 3
Step 3
Bind the foam down with spaced thread wraps from the front of the shank back to the bend, leaving a length of foam sticking out behind the hook.
- 4
Step 4
With the thread at the base of the foam, tie in the end of the jelly fritz.
- 5
Step 5
Bring the thread forward to just behind the eye.
- 6
Step 6
Wrap the fritz forward in close turns, stroking the fibers back toward the foam after each turn so they do not get trapped.
- 7
Step 7
Tie off the fritz behind the eye and trim the excess.
- 8
Step 8
Build a small thread head, whip finish and trim the thread.
- 9
Step 9
Trim the foam so only a short stub shows behind the fritz.
- 10
Step 10
Add a small drop of head cement to the thread head.
