Materials
Dry fly hook, size 12-16
Black 6/0
Black foam sheet 2mm, cut to shape
Black round rubber legs, fine
Hi-vis poly yarn, orange
How to Tie the Foam Beetle

Step 1
Cut a strip of black 2mm foam, about 1.5 times the hook gap wide and 2 hook lengths long.

Step 2
Secure the hook. Tie in the foam strip at the bend, extending rearward.

Step 3
(Optional) Dub a small ball of black dubbing or wrap thread to form a slight body.

Step 4
Fold the foam forward over the body and tie it down at the 2/3 mark.

Step 5
Tie in 2 rubber legs on each side at this point.

Step 6
Optionally tie in a small tuft of hi-vis poly yarn as a sighting indicator.

Step 7
Fold the foam forward one more time to the eye. Tie it down.

Step 8
Trim excess foam. Whip finish and apply a drop of super glue.
