A hot-spotted Pheasant Tail variant designed for Euro nymphing. The fluorescent thorax acts as a trigger and makes this one of the most productive modern nymphs.

Materials
Jig hook, size 12-18
Slotted tungsten bead, 2.8-3.3mm
Brown 8/0
Pheasant tail fibers, 4-6
Pheasant tail fibers, wrapped
Fluorescent pink or orange Ice Dub
How to Tie the Frenchie

Step 1
Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and secure in the vise.

Step 2
Start thread behind the bead and wrap to the bend.

Step 3
Tie in 4-6 pheasant tail fibers as a tail, about a hook-gap in length.

Step 4
Tie in more pheasant tail fibers by the tips. Wrap them forward to form the body up to about 2mm behind the bead.

Step 5
Dub a small, visible collar of fluorescent pink or orange Ice Dub right behind the bead. This is the trigger.
Less is more with the hot spot. Just a thin collar of color — too much looks unnatural.

Whip finish behind the bead.
