How to Tie the Glo Bug

   Step 1

   Place the hook in the vise and mash down the barb if desired. Start thread just behind the eye and lay a thread base on the front half of the shank.

   Step 2

   Cut a piece of McFly Foam or Glo-Bug Yarn about 1 to 1.5 inches long and roughly double the width of a pencil. If adding a blood dot, cut a thinner strand of red yarn about one-third the width.

   Step 3

   Lay the main yarn (and blood dot yarn on top if using) across the hook at the midpoint of the shank. Wrap the material 360 degrees around the shank, then clamp down with 3 snug thread wraps directly on top of each other.

   Pull the yarn bundle upward after securing to ensure it is centered and sits on top of the hook.

   Step 4

   Tilt the yarn rearward and make several wraps in front of it, then several behind it to further secure the yarn in position.

   Whip finish the thread in front of the yarn and snip it off. Apply a dab of head cement or super glue to the thread wraps.

   Step 6

   Gather all the yarn together, pull upward, and use sharp scissors to cut it in a tight, single arc across the top, aiming for a spherical egg shape.

   Fluff the yarn so it covers the bottom and sides of the hook after trimming. Use a Velcro brush to blend the fibers for a natural egg look.
