How to Tie the Gray Ghost

   Step 1

   Secure the long-shank streamer hook in the vise. Start thread and wrap a tag of flat silver tinsel at the rear, 4-5 turns.

   Step 2

   Tie in orange floss and wrap a smooth, even body forward to about 4/5 of the shank. Secure and trim.

   Step 3

   Tie in flat silver tinsel at the rear and spiral-wrap it forward over the body for a ribbed effect. Secure and trim.

   Step 4

   Tie in a small bunch of white bucktail beneath the shank as a throat, tips reaching the hook bend. Add 4-6 strands of peacock herl and a golden pheasant crest feather curving upward.

   Step 5

   Select four matched gray saddle hackles. Stack them concave sides together and tie them in on top of the shank, extending just past the hook bend.

   Matching and aligning the hackle feathers is the most critical and difficult step—take your time.

   Step 6

   Tie a silver pheasant body feather on each side as shoulders, about halfway up the wing length.

   Tie a jungle cock feather on each side as cheeks, just in front of the shoulders.

   Build a neat black thread head (optionally add a red thread accent band). Whip finish and coat the head with lacquer or UV resin.
