How to Tie the Green Drake Nymph

   Step 1

   Optionally place a bead on the hook. Secure in the vise and attach olive thread, wrapping a base from behind the eye to the hook bend.

   Step 2

   Tie in a small bunch of olive pheasant tail fibers at the bend for a tail about one-third the shank length.

   Step 3

   Tie in fine wire at the base of the tail for ribbing.

   Apply dark olive dubbing and build a slightly tapered, robust body from the tail up to about two-thirds of the hook shank.

   Step 5

   Spiral-wrap the wire rib forward over the dubbing to create segmentation. Secure and trim excess.

   Step 6

   Tie in sparse mottled turkey or hen fibers on both sides where the thorax begins to suggest legs. Keep them swept slightly back.

   Sparse legs give a more natural appearance.

   Step 7

   Cut and tie in a strip of turkey or thin skin over the thorax area for the wing case. Fold it back temporarily.

   Dub a slightly larger thorax with olive dubbing, tapering toward the eye.

   Fold the turkey/thin skin strip forward over the thorax to form the wing case. Secure and trim excess.

    Step 10

    Apply a thin layer of epoxy or UV resin over the wing case for a wet, realistic sheen.

    Build a small head with thread, whip finish, and add head cement.
