How to Tie the Griffith's Gnat

   Step 1

   Secure a small dry fly hook in the vise. Start thread and wrap back to the bend.

   Step 2

   Tie in a small, undersized grizzly hackle feather at the bend.

   Step 3

   Tie in 2-3 strands of peacock herl at the bend.

4. 4

   Step 4

   Wrap the peacock herl forward to form the body, stopping short of the eye. Tie off.

   Twist the herl strands together into a rope before wrapping for a more durable body.

   Step 5

   Palmer the grizzly hackle forward through the peacock herl body in open spiral wraps. Tie off behind the eye.

6. 6

   Step 6

   Build a tiny thread head, whip finish, and apply a small drop of head cement.
