Halloween Jig Bugger
Halloween Jig Bugger is a small leech or woolly bugger style fly from Cheech of Fly Fish Food, built on a jig hook for stillwater and also fished in rivers. The black and orange scheme suits fall and spring, and the same design can be tied in other colors to match different food. Two colors of strung marabou make the tail. The body is Halloween Simi Seal, which picks out well into a shaggy, buggy shape, with a barred hackle palmered through it and locked down by hot orange wire. Tied here on a size 8 hook.

How to Tie the Halloween Jig Bugger
- 1
Step 1
Slide the orange slotted bead onto the jig hook and mount the hook in the vise.
- 2
Step 2
Start the orange thread behind the bead, wrap back to the bend and trim the tag.
- 3
Step 3
Pull a clump of black marabou from the strung feather and tie it in at the bend for the tail.
- 4
Step 4
Tie a clump of burnt orange marabou over the black so the two colors make one full tail. Bind the butts down and trim any excess.
- 5
Step 5
Tie in the hot orange wire at the base of the tail.
- 6
Step 6
Dub a slim, dark strand of Simi Seal and wrap it forward to make a thin body up to the bead.
- 7
Step 7
Tie in the barred hackle just behind the bead and palmer it back through the body in open turns to the base of the tail. Hold the feather tip there.
- 8
Step 8
Wrap the hot orange wire forward through the hackle, trapping the feather tip at the first turn. Tie off the wire behind the bead, remove the excess and trim the tip.
- 9
Step 9
Whip finish behind the bead and cut the thread.
- 10
Step 10
Brush the body with a comb or brush tool so the Simi Seal fibers stand out around the shank.
Simi Seal picks out easily, so a few strokes blend the body into the hackle.
