How to Tie the Iced Apple Caddis

   Step 1

   Secure the Tiemco 2487 curved nymph hook in the vise. Start UTC 70D olive thread and build a thread base to the bend.

   The 2487 has a curved shank that mimics the natural c-shaped posture of caddis larvae.

   Tie in the Hareline Micro Tubing in olive at the bend for the rib.

   Step 3

   Tie in the Veevus Holographic Silver Tinsel at the bend along the body.

   The holographic tinsel adds a subtle flash that helps the fly stand out.

   Wrap the silver tinsel forward in touching wraps to create a flashy underbody, then tie off and trim.

   Wrap the olive micro tubing forward over the tinsel body as an open-spiral rib. Tie off behind the head area.

   Space the rib evenly — the tubing adds a realistic segmented appearance over the flash.

   Create a dubbing blend of Hareline Ice Dub in Brown Olive and Olive. Dub a wing or thorax area behind the hook eye.

   Mix the two Ice Dub colors for a natural, variegated caddis-green look.

   Apply Wapsi Squirrel Dub as a scruffy collar at the head. Pick out the fibers generously for a buggy appearance.

   Squirrel dub has a natural spikiness — brush it out aggressively for that 'attitude' profile that makes this fly special.

   Whip finish and trim the thread. Pick out any remaining dubbing fibers.
