This pattern features Lady Amherst pheasant tippets as the primary wing material, creating an iridescent, flowing streamer that pulses with life in the water. Materials
Streamer hook (TMC 7999 or equivalent), sizes 2-8
Black 6/0 (140 denier)
Lady Amherst pheasant tippet fibers
Flat tinsel or holographic tinsel, silver or gold
Oval tinsel or fine wire
Lady Amherst pheasant center tail or tippet feathers
Soft hackle — guinea fowl or schlappen in black or blue
Built-up thread head, lacquered
How to Tie the Lady Amherst Streamer

Step 1
Mount the streamer hook and start thread. Build a smooth thread base from the eye to the bend.
A smooth base prevents the tinsel body from creating lumps.

Tie in Lady Amherst tippet fibers as a tail, about half the shank length.

Step 3
Tie in flat tinsel and oval tinsel rib at the tail. Wrap the flat tinsel forward in even, overlapping turns to form a smooth body. Tie off.

Counter-wrap the oval tinsel as a rib. Tie off and trim.

Step 5
Select 2-4 Lady Amherst pheasant feathers for the wing. Tie them in on top, extending to or slightly past the tail.
Lady Amherst tippets have a natural barring pattern that creates unique flash unlike any synthetic material.

Tie in a guinea fowl or schlappen hackle and make 2-3 wraps as a collar, sweeping fibers rearward.

Step 7
Build a substantial lacquered thread head, whip finish, and apply several coats of head cement for a classic streamer finish.
