Materials
Saltwater hook, size 1/0-4
White 3/0 or 6/0
White saddle hackle, 4-6 feathers
Pearl Flashabou or Krystal Flash, 6-8 strands
Thread only (no body material)
White bucktail, tied around shank
Peacock herl, 4-6 strands
3D holographic eyes, stick-on
How to Tie the Lefty's Deceiver

Step 1
Secure the saltwater hook. Start thread at the bend.

Step 2
Select 4-6 white saddle hackles. Pair them so the curves oppose each other. Tie them in at the bend, splayed outward.
Pair the hackles so they kick outward — this gives the fly its classic wide profile and swimming action.

Step 3
Add 6-8 strands of pearl flash on each side, shorter than the feather tail.

Step 4
Wrap thread forward to behind the eye, building a slight thread body.

Step 5
Tie in a generous clump of white bucktail around the shank, surrounding it 360 degrees.

Step 6
Tie in a few strands of peacock herl on top as a topping.

Step 7
Build a smooth, tapered head with thread.

Step 8
Whip finish and cement. Stick on 3D eyes and coat the head with UV resin or epoxy.
