Materials
Tiemco TMC 2457 scud/egg hook, sizes 8-18
Veevus GSP 100 denier or Danville Flymaster Plus, color to match egg
McFlyfoam yarn (Oregon Cheese, Early Girl, or Golden)
Contrasting color McFlyfoam for egg yolk center
How to Tie the McFlyfoam Egg

Step 1
Secure the egg hook in the vise. Start the GSP thread at the midpoint of the shank and build a small bump of thread wraps.
GSP or strong thread is essential—you need to cinch the foam tightly for a round shape.

Step 2
Cut a 2-inch piece of McFlyfoam yarn. Lay it perpendicular across the top of the hook shank at the thread bump.

Step 3
Take two loose wraps of thread around the McFlyfoam, centering it on the shank. Then pull the thread tight in one firm motion to cinch the yarn down into the shape of a ball.

Make several more tight wraps to fully secure the McFlyfoam. Whip finish and cut the thread.

Pull all the McFlyfoam fibers upward and trim them into a round egg shape with sharp scissors. Trim close but leave enough to maintain a full, round profile.

Optionally, tie in a small tuft of contrasting McFlyfoam on one side before trimming to create a visible 'yolk dot' for added realism.
