Medallion Midge
Pat Dorsey's Medallion Midge features a distinctive translucent wingcase made from Gen 2 Medallion Sheeting that gives the pattern an incredibly realistic midge pupa appearance. The slightly shiny wingcase and delicate wing buds fool even the most selective tailwater trout. This pattern excels during winter and spring midge hatches in sizes 20-24, fished high in the water column as part of a two-fly nymph rig.

Materials
TMC 101 or TMC 2487/2488, sizes 18-24
8/0 UNI-Thread, brown (or camel, dark brown, black for variants)
White 6/0 UNI-Thread or 8/0 Veevus white
Gen 2 Medallion Sheeting (clear, mottled, or pearl)
Rusty brown or mahogany Superfine Dubbing (or Hare's Ice Dubbing brown)
Brown tying thread, built up for slim body
How to Tie the Medallion Midge

Step 1
Place the hook in the vise and lay a smooth thread base from behind the eye to the bend.

Step 2
Attach the white ribbing thread at the rear of the hook.

Build up a slim brown thread body by wrapping forward in smooth, touching turns.

Step 4
Spiral wrap the white ribbing thread forward through the body for visible segmentation. Tie off and trim.

Cut a small strip of Medallion Sheeting and tie it in at the front of the body, laying it flat over the top.
The Medallion Sheeting develops a realistic, slightly shiny look that's crucial for fooling selective trout.

Step 6
Dub a small thorax with Superfine Dubbing or Hare's Ice Dub.

Step 7
Pull the Medallion Sheeting up and over the thorax to form the wingcase. Secure at the front. Optionally divide remaining material for wing buds on each side.

Whip finish and trim the Medallion Sheeting to shape. Apply a drop of head cement.
