How to Tie the Medusa Green Drake

Step 1
Secure the hook in the vise and lay a smooth thread base from behind the eye to the bend.

Tie in a small clump of black marabou as a trailing shuck at the rear of the hook, keeping it short.

Attach the gold micro metal wire for ribbing, then tie in pheasant tail fibers for the body.

Wrap the pheasant tail fibers forward to create a segmented body, then counter-rib with the gold wire for durability. Tie off and trim.

Hand-blend the three sculpin wool colors (gray, white, light olive) and tie the blended bundle on top of the hook as the wing. Adjust proportions and spread for the signature Medusa profile.
Don't overdress the wing — a moderate amount creates the best profile and flotation.

Using a thread splitter, create a split thread loop. Insert CDC feathers (light dun and pale olive) into the loop.

Spin the CDC in the thread loop to create a bushy CDC hackle, then wrap it forward to form the thorax/collar area.

Whip finish behind the hook eye and trim excess.

Treat the completed fly with Fly Agra or quality liquid floatant while still in the vise. This is essential for maximum flotation.
Applying floatant at the bench ensures the wool and CDC are fully treated before fishing.
