Controversial but undeniably effective. Made from a piece of mop material, this fly catches fish when nothing else works. Don't knock it until you try it.

Materials
Jig hook, size 10-14
Slotted tungsten bead, 3.3mm
White or tan 6/0
Vernille/mop material, cream or tan
How to Tie the Mop Fly

Step 1
Slide a bead onto the jig hook and secure in the vise.

Step 2
Start thread behind the bead.

Step 3
Cut a single strand of Vernille about 1.5 inches long. Taper one end with scissors.

Step 4
Tie in the tapered end behind the bead. The untapered end should extend past the bend as the body/tail.
A lighter touch when trimming the Vernille gives a more natural taper.

Step 5
Whip finish. Apply a drop of super glue to the tie-in area.
