Muddy Fuzzler
Muddy Fuzzler is a new fly from Clark "Cheech" Pierce that joins the buoyancy of a booby with the lifelike movement of a muddler. A foam cylinder post behind a spun deer hair head gives it lift, and a barred rabbit zonker strip sits over a fluorescent cactus chenille body and a polar chenille collar. Cheech landed fish on his first two casts with it. Alternates include orange thread, lemonade chenille, an orange collar and a peach barred strip. Tied here on a size 8 hook.

How to Tie the Muddy Fuzzler
- 1
Step 1
Set the hook in the vise, start the thread and wrap a base along the shank to the rear.
- 2
Step 2
Tie in the zonker strip on top at the rear, with the hide up and part of the strip left free to come forward over the body later. Hold that free section back out of the way.
- 3
Step 3
Tie in the cactus chenille ahead of the strip and bring the thread forward.
- 4
Step 4
Wrap the chenille forward over the rear of the shank, tie it off and trim it.
- 5
Step 5
Tie in the polar chenille directly ahead of the body, wrap it forward as a collar, tie it off and trim it. Stroke the fibers back.
- 6
Step 6
Bring the free section of the zonker forward over the top of the body and collar, tie it down ahead of the collar and trim the end.
- 7
Step 7
Cut a length of foam cylinder and bind it on top of the shank ahead of the collar with firm wraps so it stands upright.
- 8
Step 8
Trim the foam down to a short post.
- 9
Step 9
Cut a bunch of deer hair, clean it and even the tips in a stacker.
- 10
Step 10
Hold the hair against the shank in front of the foam, take firm wraps and let it spin around the shank.
- 11
Step 11
Push the hair back against the foam, whip finish at the eye and cut the thread.
- 12
Step 12
Trim the hair to a head shape, turning the fly to reach the underside and leaving the foam post showing on top.
