Materials
Barbless black jig hook (Umpqua XC400BL or Hanak 400BL), sizes 10-16
Slotted tungsten bead, copper, 3mm for size 14
.015" lead-free wire (optional)
Fluorescent Fire Orange 8/0 or Veevus 14/0 hot orange
Glo-Brite Floss, Fire Orange #5
Green Sulky Holoshimmer tinsel
5x nylon monofilament tippet
Ice Dub, Peacock Black or natural peacock herl
Natural dun CDC feather, 1-2 wraps
How to Tie the Olsen's Blowtorch

Step 1
Slide copper tungsten bead onto the jig hook. Optionally add wraps of lead-free wire and secure with superglue.

Step 2
Start hot orange thread behind the bead and build a base to the hook bend.

Step 3
Tie in a short tag of Glo-Brite Fire Orange floss at the bend. Fold and secure for a bright tail nub.
Keep the tag short — it's a trigger, not a long tail.

Tie in the green Sulky Holoshimmer tinsel and 5x mono for ribbing at the tag tie-in point.

Step 5
Dub a tapered body of Peacock Black Ice Dub forward to the thorax area.

Step 6
Wrap the tinsel forward as a rib in even spirals. Counter-wrap the 5x mono to protect the tinsel. Tie off both.

Step 7
Select a natural dun CDC feather. Tie in by the tip and make 1-2 sparse wraps as a collar. Sweep fibers rearward.

Form a small hot spot collar with the hot orange thread directly behind the bead.

Whip finish at the bead and apply a dab of Zap-A-Gap or Sally Hansen's to secure.
