Perdi Midge
Perdi Midge borrows the bright body of a Perdigon and puts it on a very small midge nymph, tied here by Cheech. A slightly oversized gold tungsten bead supplies the weight, and a pearl flash body under a fine copper wire rib supplies the shine. A coat of UV resin finishes it, and the result is a simple, heavy, durable fly for fishing deep. The flash, the colors and the size can all be swapped to suit the bugs you want to match. Tied here on a size 22 hook.

How to Tie the Perdi Midge
- 1
Step 1
Slide the slotted bead up to the eye of the hook and mount the hook in the vise.
- 2
Step 2
Start the black thread behind the bead, trim the tag, and wrap a thread base back to the bend.
- 3
Step 3
Tie in the copper wire at the bend so the long end trails off the back of the hook.
- 4
Step 4
Tie in the Perdigon Body strip at the same point, then bring the thread forward to just behind the bead.
- 5
Step 5
Wrap the Perdigon Body strip forward to the thread, covering the shank. Tie it off and trim the excess.
- 6
Step 6
Lock the body down with a whip finish, leaving the thread attached so it can tie off the wire.
- 7
Step 7
Wrap the copper wire forward over the body in an open spiral. Tie it off behind the bead and trim the excess.
- 8
Step 8
Cover the tie-off points with thread to form a small black collar behind the bead, then whip finish and trim the thread.
- 9
Step 9
Coat the body and collar with a thin layer of Bone Dry resin and cure it with a UV light.
