How to Tie the Perdigon

  1. 1

    Step 1

Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and secure in the vise.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Start fluorescent thread behind the bead. Make a small hot spot collar of 5-6 wraps. Tie off and switch to the main body thread.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Wrap thread back to the bend in smooth, tight turns.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Tie in 3-4 Coq de Leon fibers as a short tail — about half the hook gap.

  5. 5

    Step 5

Tie in a strand of fine holographic tinsel at the tail.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Build a smooth, slightly tapered thread body from tail to bead. The taper is critical.

Take time to build a perfectly smooth taper. The UV resin will magnify any bumps.

  7. 7

    Step 7

Spiral the tinsel forward in 4-5 even wraps. Tie off behind the bead.

  8. 8

    Step 8

Whip finish. Apply a thin coat of UV resin over the entire body. Cure with UV light.
