How to Tie the Perdigon (Black)

   Step 1

   Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and secure in the vise.

   Step 2

   Optionally wrap a few turns of thin lead wire behind the bead for extra weight and to seat the bead.

   Step 3

   Start black thread behind the bead and build a smooth thread base down to the hook bend.

   Step 4

   Select 3-5 Coq de León fibers and tie them in at the bend, keeping the tail roughly equal to the hook gap.

   Tie in a short length of fine silver wire along the hook shank for ribbing.

   Step 6

   Using black thread or floss, create a smooth, slim, slightly tapered body from the tail to the bead.

   A slim body is essential—avoid bulky wraps.

   Step 7

   Spiral-wrap the silver wire rib forward in open, evenly spaced turns to create segmentation. Secure and helicopter off excess.

   Step 8

   Add a few wraps of fluorescent orange thread right behind the bead for a hotspot collar.

   Step 9

   Whip finish and trim thread. Apply a thin coat of UV resin over the entire body, keeping it slim. Cure with UV light.

   Use a black marker on top of the thorax area for an optional wingcase effect before the final resin coat.
