How to Tie the Perdigon (Olive)

   Step 1

   Slide the slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and seat it behind the eye. Secure the hook in the vise.

   The slot should face downward on a jig hook for proper seating.

   Step 2

   Wrap 6 turns of lead wire behind the bead and push forward to lock the bead in place.

   Step 3

   Start white thread behind the bead and wrap a smooth, even foundation down to the hook bend, building a slight taper.

   Select 3-5 Coq de León fibers, align tips, and tie them in at the bend. Tail length should equal the hook gape width.

   Keep the tail sparse for a slim profile.

   Tie in gold Ultra Wire along the side of the shank for ribbing.

   Attach olive body material (Body Quill or thread) and wrap a slim, tapered body from tail to bead.

   Keep wraps smooth and tight—the slim profile is critical for fast sinking.

   Step 7

   Counter-wrap the wire rib in open, evenly spaced turns up to the bead and secure.

   Switch to fluorescent fire orange thread and add a small hotspot collar of 3-4 wraps just behind the bead.

   Step 9

   Whip finish and cut thread. Apply a thin, even coat of UV resin over the entire body and cure with a UV light.

   Rotate the fly while curing to prevent resin from pooling on one side.
