Pork Poker

Nymph

Rainbow Trout
Brown Trout
Hook: 6-8

Pork Poker is Cheech's version of the pig sticker style of worm. Wraps of lead wire give the fly its weight, pink thread covers the lead, and a strip of Fulling Mill Nymph-Rap goes over the top for a segmented body that takes very little work to form. It is tied here in Nightcrawler Brown, with Translucent Flesh as an alternative, and any worm hook you like can stand in for the curved caddis hook. Tied here on a size 6 hook.

How to Tie the Pork Poker

  1. 1

    Step 1

Mount the hook in the vise with the curved shank clear of the jaws.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Wrap the lead wire around the curve of the shank in close turns, leaving bare hook behind the eye and at the rear. Trim both ends of the wire.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Start the thread on the bare hook at the rear of the lead.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Wrap the thread over the rear end of the lead to lock it in place.

  5. 5

    Step 5

Tie in a strip of Nymph-Rap at the rear of the lead and leave it trailing back, out of the way.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Wrap the thread forward over the lead until the wire is fully covered, then cover the bare hook up to the eye. Leave the thread hanging just behind the eye.

  7. 7

    Step 7

Bring the Nymph-Rap up and wrap it forward in close, even turns to form the segmented body, stopping behind the eye.

  8. 8

    Step 8

Tie off the strip behind the eye and trim the excess.

  9. 9

    Step 9

Whip finish behind the eye and trim the thread.
