Roza's Violet Tailed Jig is a jig nymph from competitive angler Lubos Roza, sold by Fulling Mill and tied here by Cheech. It shares traits with the Duracell, but it has a natural hare's ear body and a bright tag in place of a CDL tail. It can be tied large or small and works as an anchor or an attractor. Vary the tag through shades of purple, violet and lavender, using dubbing, floss or fine fibers. Cheech reports it has proven itself all over the Western US. Tied here on a size 16 hook.

How to Tie the Roza's Violet Tailed Jig

  1. 1

    Step 1

Slide the silver bead onto the jig hook, seat it behind the eye, and mount the hook in the vise.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Start the black thread behind the bead and wrap a thread base back to the bend. Trim the tag end.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Secure a small pinch of the violet dubbing at the bend to form a short, bright tag.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Tie in the silver wire just ahead of the tag.

  5. 5

    Step 5

Dub the thread lightly with hare's ear and wrap a slim body forward, stopping short of the bead.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Wrap the wire forward over the dubbing in open turns. Tie it off and trim the excess.

  7. 7

    Step 7

Clamp a bunch of CDC fibers in a CDC clamp and trim the butts.

  8. 8

    Step 8

Set the CDC in a thread loop at the front of the body and spin the loop into a rope.

  9. 9

    Step 9

Wrap the rope as a short collar, stroking the fibers back as you go. Tie it off and trim the excess.

  10. 10

    Step 10

Dub a little peacock black Ice Dub onto the thread and wrap a small head between the collar and the bead.

  11. 11

    Step 11
