Shrimp Biscuit
Rick Davidson's Shrimp Biscuit is a buggy, versatile saltwater shrimp pattern designed for bonefish, permit, and other flats cruisers. Featured in Red's Fly Shop Tyer's Takeout series, this pattern combines a micro rabbit strip body with Diamond Dub flash and Crazy Legs for maximum movement and lifelike presence. Tiemco XS420 Saltwater Hook, size 6
UTC 210, tan
Bead chain eyes, medium gold
Arizona Diamond Dub in Callibaetis and Hareline Micro Rabbit Strip in tan
Black Krystal Flash
Hareline Crazy Legs in Gold/Black Flake
Aqua Flies Halo Eyes
Fluoro Fiber in orange for egg sack
How to Tie the Shrimp Biscuit

Step 1
Mount the saltwater hook and start thread. Tie in bead chain eyes on the top of the shank near the eye using figure-eight wraps, secured with super glue.

Wrap thread to the bend. Tie in a small tuft of fluoro fiber in orange as a hot spot/egg sack at the rear.
The orange egg sack adds a subtle trigger point that permit and bonefish key on.

Step 3
Tie in the micro rabbit strip and a sparse amount of Arizona Diamond Dub, wrapping forward to build a buggy shrimp body.

Step 4
At the mid-shank, tie in Crazy Legs on each side, splayed outward for movement.

Add a few strands of black Krystal Flash along the sides of the body.

Continue wrapping the rabbit strip and dubbing forward around the bead chain eyes, building up the head area.

Step 7
Attach Halo Eyes on each side for a realistic shrimp profile. Whip finish and apply head cement.
The Halo Eyes add a lifelike detail that differentiates this pattern from simpler shrimp flies.
