Silent Bob
Silent Bob is a single hook sculpin streamer from Brandon Mena, worked out in a talk about streamer action with his brother Josh Mena, whose nickname it carries. A wedge trimmed deer hair head paired with Belly-Scratcher style weighting, tungsten beads on a belly wire, drives the action. Red Ice Dub and Barred Predator Wrap form a blood red gill pack. Expect a fairly long tie. For other colors, swap the rabbit, deer hair and eyes, such as brown barred ginger rabbit with golden brown deer hair and pearl eyes. Tied here on a size 1 hook.

How to Tie the Silent Bob
- 1
Step 1
Mount the hook and start the GSP thread on the shank.
- 2
Step 2
Tie the trailer hook wire along the shank with a long end running out behind the hook.
- 3
Step 3
Tie in a bunch of UV Pearl Ice Dub on the shank for the first part of the belly, letting it flow toward the bend.
- 4
Step 4
Slide the tungsten beads onto the wire, bring the wire forward along the shank and bind it down firmly so the beads are locked in place.
This beaded wire is the Belly-Scratcher weight, so make the tie-down solid.
- 5
Step 5
Rotate the vise so the hook point faces up. Tie in another bunch of Ice Dub to fill out the belly.
- 6
Step 6
Tie in the olive rabbit strip on top of the Ice Dub with the fur trailing past the bend. Trim the excess.
- 7
Step 7
Tie in clumps of red Ice Dub around the shank at the front of the rabbit for the gill pack, and stroke them back.
- 8
Step 8
Add the Barred Predator Wrap in front of the Ice Dub, tie it off and stroke the fibers back. Move the thread to bare shank ahead of the gill pack.
- 9
Step 9
Cut a bunch of deer hair from the Premo strip and even the tips in a hair stacker.
- 10
Step 10
Tie the bunch in ahead of the gill pack with the tips pointing back, letting the hair flare and spin around the shank. Pack it tight against the gill pack.
- 11
Step 11
Repeat with more bunches of deer hair, packing each one back, until the head reaches the eye. Whip finish behind the eye.
- 12
Step 12
Shape the head with a double edge razor blade and scissors into a wedge, narrow at the eye and wide at the rear. Keep the stacked tips as a collar over the gill pack.
The wedge shape is what gives this fly its action, so take your time on the trim.
- 13
Step 13
Glue a Fluorescent Fly Eye to each side of the head, using Z-Ment on a bodkin.
- 14
Step 14
Coat around the eyes with Loon UV Clear Fly Finish, Flow first and then Thick, and cure each coat with a UV light.
