Stupid Easy Streamer

Stupid Easy Streamer

Streamer
Baitfish
Beginner
Rainbow Trout
Brown Trout
Hook: 4

Curtis Fry came up with this streamer because he needed a simple fly that would keel properly without running too deep or floating the way many over-dressed streamers do. It takes few materials and few steps, so you can tie a batch in different color schemes to match your local baitfish and still have time to fish them. Fry has fished it in lakes and rivers. It comes in black or white. Tied here in white on a size 4 hook.

How to Tie the Stupid Easy Streamer

  1. 1

    Step 1

Slide the bead onto the hook, seat it behind the eye and clamp the hook in the vise.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Start the thread directly behind the bead and trim the tag. Everything on this fly ties in here, right behind the bead.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Tie in a bunch of Synthetic Yak Hair behind the bead with the fibers running back over the hook as a tail. Trim the butts.

  4. 4

    Step 4

Taper the rear of the yak hair with tapering scissors so the tips feather out rather than end in a blunt edge.

  5. 5

    Step 5

Tie in Lateral Scale behind the bead so it trails back through the yak hair.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Tie in the wire core of the Baitfish Brush behind the bead.

  7. 7

    Step 7

Wrap the brush close behind the bead, stroking the fibers back with each turn.

Over-dressed streamers tend to float, so stop before the body gets too thick.

  8. 8

    Step 8

Tie off the brush, cut the wire with flush cutters, and whip finish behind the bead.

  9. 9

    Step 9

Brush the fibers back and out to blend them into the tail and set the shape of the fly.

  10. 10

    Step 10

Coat the fibers at the head with Solarez resin, shape them, and cure with a UV light.

  11. 11

    Step 11

Set a Living Eye on each side of the head and fix them in place with resin and the UV light.

  12. 12

    Step 12

Trim and taper the body with scissors to the baitfish profile you want.

  13. 13

    Step 13

If you like, color the back of the fly with a permanent marker.
