Suede Worm
Suede Worm is a chenille worm Cheech ties as a simple way to get a fly that is both heavy and durable, and he points out that the same idea already goes by the name Uncle Cooter's Heater Hound. Brown ultrafine suede chenille passes through a gold slotted tungsten bead on a small jig hook, leaving one end on each side of the bead, with fluorescent orange thread holding it in place. Cheech aims it at brown trout. Tied here on a size 16 hook.

How to Tie the Suede Worm
- 1
Step 1
Slide a bead onto a length of suede chenille and move it to the middle of the strand.
- 2
Step 2
Take the hook out of the vise, run the point through the slot in the bead beside the chenille, and work the bead around the bend. Put the hook back in the vise with chenille running out of both sides of the bead.
- 3
Step 3
Keep the bead back near the bend and start the thread on the bare shank ahead of it.
- 4
Step 4
Slide the bead forward to the eye end of the shank, with one end of the chenille out past the eye and the other running back over the bend.
- 5
Step 5
Wrap the thread firmly over the chenille right behind the bead to lock the bead and chenille in place.
- 6
Step 6
Put a small drop of glue on the wraps, finish the thread, and trim it.
- 7
Step 7
Pinch the chenille at the bead so both ends lift away from the hook.
- 8
Step 8
Trim both ends of the chenille to length.
- 9
Step 9
Touch a little glue to each tip of the chenille.
