Materials
Scud or jig nymph hook, sizes 14-18
Slotted tungsten bead, sized to hook
UTC 70 Denier in olive, tan, brown, or black (this IS the body)
Coq de Leon fibers or speckled hackle fibers
Fine copper, gold, or silver wire
UV Ice Dub or bright dubbing (orange, pink, or chartreuse)
How to Tie the Thread Body Nymph

Step 1
Slide the tungsten bead onto the hook (small end first) and secure the hook in the vise.

Start thread behind the bead and wrap a smooth, even base back to the bend of the hook.

Select a small bunch of Coq de Leon fibers, measure to about the hook shank length, and tie in at the bend.
Coq de Leon fibers are durable and have a natural speckled pattern that fish love.

Optionally tie in a piece of fine wire along the shank for ribbing.

Step 5
Use flat, smooth wraps of the tying thread to build a slender, tapered body up to the bead. This IS the body—no dubbing needed.

If using ribbing, counter-wrap the wire forward in open turns to create segmentation. Secure and break off.

Dub a small ball of UV Ice Dub or bright dubbing just behind the bead as a hot spot thorax.

Whip finish behind the bead and clip thread. Optionally apply UV resin over the thread body for extra durability and a glossy finish.
