How to Tie the TJ Hooker

   Step 1

   Slide the gold slotted tungsten bead onto the MFC Barbless Jig Hook and secure in the vise. Start UNI 6/0 dark brown thread behind the bead.

   The jig hook orientation helps the fly ride point-up, reducing snags on the bottom.

   Step 2

   Select a plume of MFC Mini Barred Marabou in brown & black. Tie it in at the bend as a flowing tail, about one shank length long.

   Marabou provides incredible lifelike movement — the barred pattern adds extra visual appeal.

   Step 3

   Tie in the Hareline Variegated Chenille in black & brown at the tail tie-in point.

   Step 4

   Wrap the variegated chenille forward in touching wraps, building a full, buggy body. Stop about one-third shank length behind the bead.

   The variegated black & brown chenille creates a natural, mottled stonefly appearance.

   Step 5

   Tie in a pair of UNI Flexx legs on each side of the fly, positioned to extend outward. Trim to length.

   Use two sets of legs — one pair at mid-body and one near the head for a realistic stonefly profile.

   Step 6

   Continue wrapping chenille forward to the bead if needed, or build a thread head. Whip finish behind the bead and trim.

   Fish this pattern dead-drifted near the bottom in riffles, pocket water, and deep runs. Add a twitch for extra action.
