How to Tie the Wedge Head Trout Slider

   Step 1

   Assemble the articulated connection: attach the rear hook to the intruder wire, leaving a gap for movement between hooks.

   Step 2

   Mount the rear hook in the vise. Tie in layers of marabou — white first, then golden tan on top — as the tail.

   Step 3

   Dub the rear body with Gold Ice Dub to fill out the rear section. Whip finish the rear hook.

   Mount the front hook with the wire connection in the vise. Tie in the lead eyes on top of the shank using figure-eight wraps and secure with Z-Ment.

   The lead eyes add both weight and a pivot point for the hunting action.

   Step 5

   Dub a body with Gold Ice Dub on the front hook, building up around the eyes.

   Apply a beard of cream Bruiser Blend dubbing on the underside for a baitfish belly.

   Step 7

   Stack and spin multiple bunches of deer hair (bleached and tan) to build the wedge-shaped head. Pack tightly with a hair packer between each bunch.

   Step 8

   Remove the fly from the vise and carefully sculpt the deer hair head into a wedge shape using a double-edge razor blade. Angle the cut to create a broad, flat bottom and tapered top.

   The wedge shape is critical — a flat bottom and angled top create the erratic swimming action.

   Step 9

   Trim and clean up any loose fibers, apply Z-Ment to thread wraps, and the fly is complete.
