How to Tie the Zebra Midge

   Step 1

   Slide a small tungsten bead onto the midge hook and secure in the vise.

   Step 2

   Start thread behind the bead and wrap back to the bend in smooth, touching turns.

   Tie in a piece of fine silver wire at the bend.

   Step 4

   Wrap thread forward in smooth, even layers to build a slightly tapered body. The body should be thinner at the rear and thicker near the bead.

   The key to a good Zebra Midge is a smooth, evenly tapered thread body. Take your time with even wraps.

   Step 5

   Wrap the wire rib forward in 5-7 evenly spaced turns. Tie off behind the bead and helicopter the excess.

   Step 6

   Whip finish behind the bead. No head cement needed — the bead covers the head.
